Ultrasound Therapy

Ultrasound Therapy is a painless therapy which provides treatment for soft tissue injuries, muscle strains and assists with pain relief. Ultrasound carries energy from the ultrasound head, through the gel and into the tissues which stimulates tissue repair. The technique increases the blood flow to the targeted area and helps to heal the damaged tissues, speeding up your recovery. Ultrasound has been shown to reduce muscle spasms and increase extensibility of collagen fibers.

The Sangtong, Chupinijrobkob, Putthakumnerd & Kuptniratsaikul, (2019) study, looked into how effective ultrasound therapy is on it’s own and when adding transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) to therapeutic ultrasound affect pain or function in people with osteoarthritis of the knee. This study shown that adding TENS to ultrasound therapy was no more effective than ultrasound therapy alone.

The Xia, Wang, Lin, Cheng, & Li, (2017) study, investigated the effectiveness of ultrasound therapy in helping to reduce myofascial pain. This study showed benefits when using ultrasound therapy but the high risk of bias may make the results of this study inconclusive.
