Kinesiology Taping

Kinesiology taping was first developed by Dr Kenzo Kase, a Japanese chiropractor in the 1970s. The technique is used to alleviate discomfort and helps ease pain by lifting the fascia surrounding the muscles.

Kinesiology taping allows the lymphatic drainage system to target damaged muscle fibres, helping to promote healthy healing. By lifting the muscle fascia, Kinesiology taping increases blood flow which decreases inflammation, eases pain and increases your range of motion.

The benefits:

  • positive physiological effects on the lymphatic system
  • improves the circulatory system
  • accelerates the healing process
  • reduces inflammation
  • supports muscles and joints
  • reduces swelling
  • Oedema control (improving fluid dynamics)

Kinesiology Tape is:

  • 100% latex free
  • doesn’t limit your range of motion
  • water resistant

Kinesiology tape can be used anywhere from your neck to feet, but has to be applied correctly. Incorrect taping is often completely ineffective or sometimes damaging.

The Letafatkar and Mohamamd Golipour Agdam, (2019) study, investigated how beneficial kinesiology taping was for postural control and how it would decrease shoulder pain and increase ROM in gamers. This could also be considered for people who work in office-based jobs.

In the Ghozy et al, (2019) study, it reviewed the effectivness of kinesiology taping (KT) alongside exercises and without exercises. This study showed that KT tape was more effective being used alongside exercises than on its own.
