Sports Massage
Sports Massage Therapy is a deep-tissue massage designed to release muscle tension, treat and prevent injuries, and support overall muscle health. Each session is tailored to your individual needs, using various techniques to target problem areas and promote recovery.
Sports massage is highly effective for loosening tight muscles, easing muscle fascia, and removing knots. It can help improve flexibility, reduce pain, and enhance performance, making it beneficial for athletes and anyone experiencing muscle discomfort or tension.
Some of the key techniques used in sports massage include:
Effleurage:
Smooth, long strokes help warm the muscle tissues and increase blood flow. Effleurage is always performed in the direction of the heart to aid circulation and help remove waste products from the muscles.
Petrissage:
A kneading technique that works deeper into the muscles, activating the lymphatic system to remove waste products from the tissues. Petrissage includes a range of movements such as squeezing, rolling, and lifting the muscles.
Tapotement:
A rhythmic percussion technique that stimulates the muscles and increases local blood circulation. Tapotement involves gently tapping, chopping, or cupping to invigorate the treated area.
Each technique is chosen and adapted based on your specific needs, ensuring you receive the most effective treatment for your body. If you have any questions or want to book a session, don’t hesitate to contact Abbey; Abbey is here to help you feel your best.

The Leach & Schilz, (2020) study, investigated the way athletes perceive sports massage therapy and tests if it has a positive response and the athlete’s knowledge on sports massage. It is important to have regular sports massage as muscle fatigue in athletes occurs quite often during and after training.
The Gasibat & Suwehli, (2017) study, assesses the mechanisms of massage and how it can benefit athletes in performance, muscle recovery, and injury prevention. This is a very useful journal as it includes lots of information and techniques to use for yourselves.
